Lindsley Avenue Church of Christ

What to Expect When You Visit

A little apprehensive about visiting a new church? These words will help set your mind at ease about visiting Lindsley Avenue Church of Christ. We are a friendly gathering of God’s family reflecting our community, people of all backgrounds and nationalities come together as God’s children. At Lindsley Avenue, we try to do the things Christians in the Bible did when gathered to worship God on Sunday mornings – no more and no less.

Our services include:

Public reading from the Bible. (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

We believe that the Bible is the word of God; we read to be encouraged and guided by the words of God.

Singing. (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16).

The whole congregation sings praises to God, and we encourage all to take part. It never matters if you have a good voice or can read music; it has always been about the worshiper’s heart . You will notice we do not use any musical instruments when we sing and since the early Christians did not use them, we do not.

Prayers offered to God through Jesus. (Romans 12:12).

Our prayers consist of praise, thanksgiving, confession, and requests (Ephesians 5:20 and 6:18; 2 Corinthians 1:11). We go before the throne of God, in Jesus’ name, and bring our requests to Him. He is the Great Physician and knows our every need. What a great honor to be able to go before the Creator of the Universe!

Preaching from God’s word. (2 Timothy 4:2)

Each week, we enjoy a lesson from God’s Word to challenge and encourage us toward a deeper faith, a stronger walk, and a more meaningful relationship with Jesus. An opportunity to respond to God’s message, during the invitation song is at the end of the lesson. Hearts are moved; responses may include requests for prayer. (James 5:16), a public Confession of loyalty to Jesus (Matthew 10:32-33), a changing in one’s lifestyle to a commitment to Jesus (Luke 13:3; Acts 17:30), or a desire to become a child of God through baptism (Acts 2:38; Romans 6:3-7; Acts 8:34-39; Mark 16:16).

The Lord’s Supper. (Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29).

We share with other Christians in the remembrance of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ The remembrance of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ is through the Lord’s Supper (Matthew 26:24-30). A prayer before partaking of a small part of bread is to remember Jesus’ body. Then another prayer before partaking of grape juice to remind us Jesus shed His blood for us all. Jesus told us to remember His death every first day of the week. We honor His sacrifice, His death, and His most incredible resurrection!

Expressing generosity. (1 Corinthians 16:1-2).

Also, every Sunday, the early Christians would have a prayer before giving members an opportunity to give. Guests do not have to take part but are welcomed should they choose to do so. We are just temporary stewards of our blessings from God. We give because we are blessed!

Just as God welcomes everyone with open arms, we at Lindsley Avenue Church of Christ do as well.

We are glad you are here. God loves you and so do we. Please let us know if we can help you.
